Tony's Studio

How would you describe your music?

I make music in a wide range of genres. All sorts. Depends on what mood I’m in. Some days I feel in an acoustic mood. Somdays I feel like making metal. Somdays I think I want to blend the two, and then I think hmm maybe a bit of celtic or classical or Eastern added to this will give it an interesting feel. Then when that song is finished I might make some jazz or fusion. Haha…..Hopefully you get the picture! Making royalty free music gives me heaps of scope to be creative. Classic rock is my favorite though.

What computer and audio hardware do you use?

I have a good selection of microphones, compressors and classic mic preamps at my disposal. I am a lover of classic recording hardware. I still like to mic up a tube guitar amp or a Leslie cabinet, but most of my synth sounds are soft synths and midi. Sometimes a real Rodes piano or Hammond organ find their way into my songs. I like to record live flutes, trumpets, sax etc where possible too. My skills as a guitarist are superior to my keyboard playing, so midi is good for helping me when my keys playing is not as good as my imagination! I sum all my mixes OTB through hardware. I use a console mainly for monitoring purposes. Audio engineering is as important to me as playing music. I have done live to air TV sound as well as recording studio engineering work with bands etc.

What software and samples do you use?

Logic, Reason, Sound Forge mainly. Lots of plugins. Drum samples from www.analoguedrums.com

What would be your dream studio setup?

An extension of what I already have. I wouldn’t be without the gear I have collected over the years, but a great tailor made room would be good.
